montreal might eat its young, but montreal won't break us down

pictures from the top:
1. the new love of my life, murray. beautiful tan handles and leather seat. cherry red color. silver fenders. three-speeds (which is fine because i don't even know how to change speeds/when it's appropriate. i used to just fake it with my other bike.) i saw it at salvation army on wednesday and didn't buy it (mostly because it wouldnt' fit in my car, but also because i'm trying not to make frivalous purchases.) but then i spent the night tossing and turning, thinking about it and revisiting the pictures of it on my camera (yes i took pictures. i was that in love.) i finally determined that i did not want it to join the ranks among the sequined green dress of alaska and the matching owl lamps as a lost treasure, so i took my mom's van over and bought it. then proceeded to ride it around the parking lot for a while. it's so beautiful. just needs a little air in the tires and a good washing.
2. i made strawberry chicken on greens with warm citrus dressing on wednesday. not a fan. too bland. needs more something. more everything maybe. but it looked pretty. and i am getting practice with my cooking skills.
3. judy's birthday was monday! happy birthday judy! my other mom! we had a bangin' chocolate cake with homemade peanut butter icing, courtesy of my momma. i told her she should quit the auditing game and be a cake maker. we'll see if she takes my advice.

i leave for montreal tomorrow! so excited!
but today is full of laundry and packing and job applications and making scones with ellen and casa show and busy-ness! i like it!

too busy living

to keep up with blogging!
shit that went down this past week that kept me too busy to blog:
1. bartending school! i passed with serious flying colors. 100% on both my written test and my pouring test plus all the extra credit. i got some serious knowledge up in hurrrrrr. one downfall? i don't think i'll ever be able to drink vlad and mountain dew again. i know too much to go back to the cheap side. the kids in my class were also really cool and it was like having a whole new mini circle of friends.
2. on friday i went up to anna's cabin with liz and jordan. we got there about four hours before anna so we just chilled with her family. sat around the fire with mr. elias. did shots with grandma. talked to colin and abi. then anna and her friends came up. really cool kids. i was supposed to leave on saturday morning but ended up staying until sunday afternoon. we went yard saling and bummed around, taking naps and listening to the rain. partied hardy on saturday night. good times abound. i missed my anyo.
3. sunday night, we were supposed to sit on the hill and listen to the coldplay concert at hershey but it was POURING rain so we just went to sarah's house instead. i was attempted to attack tyler with my love and knocked over some stuff in sarah's room, breaking a vase and spilling stones everywhere. whoops.
4. got bored and went to SONIC. i forgot how much i loved those kids. and how much i love sonic.
5. went to lil' buffalo state park with sarah and liz and the daxton clan on monday. had a delicious picnic, before renting a row boat to take out on the lake. proceeded to laugh hysterically at the fact that we couldn't even row out of the dock (the muscle-shirt-clad boat attendant did not think this was funny. though to his credit, if i worked as a boat rental man all summer, i wouldn't have much of a sense of humor either.) liz finally got the hang of it and rowed me and sarah all around. then we napped in the grass! or i did. the others tanned in the sun. that doesn't work for me. came back to my house, read about jon and kate (devastating and wacked out) before eating again. wonderful eating day.
6. cleaned aunt karen's house. $20 an hour? hellyes. i don't care if it's covered in dog/cat hair and dead bugs. psh. bring it on.

now i'm:
-sewing my t-shirt quilt
-runing for an hour
-applying for jobs out the wazoo. cross yer fingers!

sup new obsession?

seriously. so easy. addicting.

"i can buy you underwear. . ."

but where's the fun in that mom?
introducing my first pair of homemade underwear. made from my brother's old t-shirt and delightful stretch lace from the pennsylvania fabric outlet. (3 yards for 30 cents?!? whaaaaa?!?! what kind of heavenly place is this??!!) <----things i thought while browsing for trim.
i also made delicious sweet and sour stir fry for dinner. with pineapple and chicken and everything. we used to have it a lot when i was younger but it's status as a regular at the weigel dinner table dropped when i was about ten. i missed it. something about warm pineapple. mmmmmm. i'm also kicking ass with my bartending memorization. so much so that it warranted the word 'ass'. that's how intense it is. i'm loving the class. i just hope i a) get a job and b) love the job as much as the class. cross yo fingers.

dear blog:

i know i've been neglecting you.
and i promise things will change.
but right now i have to memorize over 150 drinks, make a t-shirt quilt, lose fifteen pounds, see all my friends, find a job, and finish cleaning my room.
not that you aren't important! not that these things are of greater priority!
but they kind of are.
i just know you're very understanding and won't get all pissy if i let our friendship fall to the wayside for a wee bit.
i promise, after i get off the treadmill tonight and finish cutting out quilt squares and review my flashcards one more time, i will post on you. a nice long one. with a picture and everything.
because you're my number one baby.
love,
caitlin

best fifty cents i ever spent

seriously. i bought it because i thought the title was hilarious but now that i'm listening to it, i am totally in love. think classic bach mixed with sweet ass eighties movie montage beats. it came out in 1986 and includes hits like "macho mozart" and "joy o.d.". brilliant. too good to be true. google that shit.

like mother, like daughter

seriously. what are the odds.

tribute to helrin, most beautiful mother in the world

helrin, oh helrin
how did you get so fly?
you got mad tap dance skills,
you would make gene kelly cry.
you make creative lunches,
that often in involve salmon and something cheesy
my favorite game is to make you laugh,
because then you get all wheeze-y.
you're the best mom i've ever had,
the only one if fact.
i wouldn't have it any other way,
you can bank on it jack.

R.I.P. shoes

i had some good times with you guys. a lot of good times actually. girl talk concert with you, yellow shoes. summer 2008 with metallic leaf shoes. and of course, all of junior and senior year with my beloved moccasins. but we must part ways now. your time here, with me, is over. i will remember you fondly.
R.I.P.

i'm a penguin, i live in nevada

(these are my super adorable friends getting ready to go to their senior prom. they are two of the most genuinely talented, sincerely nice people i know. and they're absolutely adorable.)

excellent weekend. excellent end of freshman year.
recap of events since last blogging:
1. went to see the wonderful casa show. i forgot how much i love the people who go there.
2. casa reunion at the colonial park diner. got my standard 1.25 plate of toast and they gave us the whole back room. i missed everyone so much. kelsey, rashaad, alison, tori, alex, morgan, megan, mike- everyone.
3. applied for a trillion jobs. keep your fingers crossed.
4. bought an adorable camera ($2!) and new sunglasses ($2!) at salvation army.
5. got the new burrito of the day at neato (incredible!)
6. cleaned my entire room. like a total overhaul. that's going to be a whole seperate post.
7. came back to philly with liz and had a crazy friday night. went to a small party with keiran, liz, and christine where we knew no one. met a bunch of people. played games. danced in the kitchen. made orange juice. sang lion king songs (one guy thought that the opening song in the lion king contained the words, "i'm a penguin, i live in nevada" which turned into "i'm a penguin, i like it on the bottom"), had a few good talks with new girl-friends, ate ice cream. overall = A+ evening.
8. saw girltalk and lupe fiasco at drexel. had to make friends with random drexel kids in order to get into the concert.
9. went to the best fest benefit with beth and andrew. lots of smelly old hipsters. saw a mini piano. listened to sleepy music. discussed feet and potential band names.
10. came home to a bunch of people in my room. cards and chinese food everywhere. watched heavyweights. dee tried to eat a fortune cookie with the plastic still on it.
11. went to brunch with my cousin eileen and my mom's cousin jen, along with jen's partner yona and their adorable children. got to hold a beautiful baby girl! and sit across from a little cherub of a boy!

everyone is packing up. my room is super bare (no tv! no fridge! brianne's closet is empty!). can't wait for the summer adventures to start.

also: they were playing this band at the party on friday. i'm totally loving it.

you make traffic jams feel like parades. . .

going home today! to see my glorious family! both blood and bond!

totally dominated my papers. straight up kicked them in the face. well. maybe not exactly. that seems a little harsh. but i did embarrass them in front of a large crowd. and they deserved it. and everyone clapped after i delivered my witty retort that put them in their place. i turned and walked out of the cafeteria to roaring applause, the papers sitting defeated among a standing ovation of well-wishers.

i think i want this bathing suit. i just have to own up to the fact that i am never going to wear a bikini. it's just not going to happen. i need to accept it. and it's probably for the best- a bikini would just mean even more sunscreen.

things i'm currently thinking about:
1. making days of the week underwear (i only ever had one set when i was little but i really enjoyed them. i like the days of the week. the way they feel, they way they sound. what better way to pay homage than to stick them on my butt?)
2. starting a short story journal. in the beautiful journal that wendy bo-bonitz gave me for graduation. it will be strictly short stories. because i have you, beautiful blog, to share my rants and raves with! and i always write better when it's on actual paper with an actual pen.
3. making a top ten list ala rockstar diaries. i think it would be a good way to cheer me up on bad days. and i love me a list. mmm mmm good.
4. pear and blue cheese pizza.
5. the phenomenal new burrito of the day that i plan to enjoy on friday with helrin.

things are wonderful!

smells like teenagers. . .

power rangers just gets better with age. seriously. it is absolutely hilarious.

and like a true power ranger of college, i have kicked the butts of my two final papers. take that forces of evil.

upcoming events that deserve exclamation points:
back to the 717 with james! half-off wednesday at salvation army! seeing the casa end of the year show! job hunting! ribs! neato burrito on friday! then liz visit! best fest benefit show!

things are looking good. . .

another one bites the dust. . .

and by that, i mean i friggin' killed my film paper. killed dat shit yo. just gotta wrap it up and SHIZAM. done!

last night we made popcorn and ghetto smores (stale marshmallows and chocolate covered pretzels or marshmallows and crunch bar and graham cracker sticks. delicious improvisation.) we also watched hercules and anastasia. excellent evening.

during hercules, i was flipping through an issue of cosmo and i was kind of appalled. the only magazines i read are craft related so i guess i'm not used to the content of these ladies magazine, but my god. they're seriously ridiculous. i don't think of myself as a feminist, but those magazines kind of ignited my inner feminazi. seriously- they're all about how to get a man and how to keep a man and what men are thinking and what they want and what they like to see women wearing. really? really? is that what we've come to? disgusting. it pains me to think of all the women who believe they need a man in their lives. anytime they get out a relationship, they're immediately on the prowl for another guy. i can think of a couple examples within my own friends, which is pretty sad. what they should be doing instead is taking a step back, looking at the bright side of being single. taking time to reevaluate and define themselves as an individual. doing things for themselves. i firmly believe that you should be happy with yourself and in a good stable place before you get involved with another person. you should feel complete on your own; anything else (or anyone else) should just be add ons. you're 100% on your own. the others? bonus prizes! you are the cake- they are the icing and sprinkles and candles and plastic clown figurines. fact.

i wish it was sunny outside!

i want

this. now.
if i were a rich man. . .

ralph roister doister

these are my adorable friends and mary's dog ted, who is more like an oversized rat than a dog. precious.

ORDERS OF BUSINESS:
1. i've been having absurd urges to create recently but i lack the proper supplies. it's highly frustrating. i just want to sew and decorate cakes and make pinatas and write scripts and use my crock pot. alas, i lack the proper supplies. and i also have to do
2. my two friggin papers. stupid journalism article and stupid film paper. actually, the film paper shouldn't be too terrible. i know what i'm writing about and i have my outline setup. i just need to do the damn thing. but the journalism article requires me to call people. and i'm not big on the whole phone thing.
3. i'm excited to go home wednesday even if it's just for a couple days. i'll get to see my sarah and my jordan and all the casa kids in their show. and hopefully line up a job. and buy some face paint.
4. because i really want to paint my face.
5. i also really want to do some karaoke.

school is almost over- i just have to buckle down and git 'er done. words to live by.

overall: pretty decent weekend.
