let the festivities commence

i'm so glad my roommates are as freakishly obsessed with christmas as i am. we all ditched the mountains of end-of-semester homework looming on all sides of us, threatening to close in and suffocate us so we could decorate and watch white christmas. i feel asleep because i'm a baby. but seriously- there are some wack attack parts in that movie. what is up with that sisters song? and the one dancer sister is ugly as sin. something about her face is just off. at one point jill was worried we would see the man's underwear when he was changing to which alex replied, "that's why there's a strategically placed box there- so we don't see bing crosby's junk." thank god for that one.

we're having a cookie baking day next week! and going to new york another day for adventures! and making stockings! and gifts! and completely ignoring that noble pursuit of higher education/the whole reason we're here in the first place! there is hot chocolate to drink and papers to ignore. i'm pumped.

falling in love

i am head over heels in love with my new coat. it is floral and fancy and i saw it a mile away. and at six dollars, i honestly feel like it was kismet. the colors! the floral pattern! so soft! and the lining- heavveeennnnnn. i just drool all over it. completely enamored.

i also bought that cute little tea pot (it's supposed to be a fridge- but it has beer and a fish on a plate on top of it? who has those things on top of their fridge?) and a bar set and a new green plate set with sweet little teacups to match. i had wonderful luck thrifting this week. so many good new things.

200 posts

oh blog. this whole thing started as a fluke. i was just using you. i couldn't find my xanga password and i started you as temporary thing. and look at us now. two hundred posts. never thought we'd make it this far baby. here's to the next two hundred.

oh dear sweet cupcake truck

julie and i love you. the only reason we even go to that stupid environment class on thursdays is because we have your sweet sugary goodness to get us through. even if it's raining and we have to walk all over god's creation to find you, it is always worth it. that toasted coconut and chocolate number from yesterday? supreme. your ganache always does me in. i look forward to our weekly meetings, every thursday, 12th and montgomery. keep up the good work.
love,
caitlin

several things of note:

  1. this blog is hilarious. and i can completely relate. i love that she calls out the wackness that sometimes is the realm of fashion. favorite part of today's post: I love fashion magazines as much as the next girl. And by that I mean I don't really love them that much, because they make me feel fat and poor.
so true girlfriend. i hear you on that one.
  2. i also really like this blog. (which i found through blog number one funny enough. . .) funniest thing i read: (on slips) I mean, unless you want to walk around with your skirt's hem wadded up in your crotch. Yes, slips are annoying. Yes, they're old fashioned. But seriously, how else are you gonna keep from looking like you're smuggling a squirrel nest between your thighs?
  3. i tottttallly love atmosphere. and nina simone. and the cats soundtrack. i'm going through a super weird music phase
  4. i also love my future plans. not necessarily career wise (i'm slacking in that area) but in going places. southern roadtrip! living in pittsburgh with my soulmates! so many good things in the future!
  5. if earl gray was really an earl and not just a delicious tea, i would marry him.

you know it's time that we grow old and do some shit

i got some film developed this weekend- the one was really really old. like. end of sophomore year old. and i'm friends with all the same people. which is really nice. i like that a lot. i like that they know me really well because we've quite literally grown up together. the other was a disposable camera i've had for a while. it starts in may 2008 and ends in september 2009. i really like the quality of the pictures from both- everyone looks more real. sweatier and shinier and more like my memories of them. i don't think i'll ever prefer digital to film. it's not just the quality- it's the tangibility. little time souvenirs.

monster mash

went to see monsters of folk at the academy of music last night with christine. it was absolutely incredible. so much more than a show. it was a whole experience as corny as that sounds. we had box seats on the floor really close to the stage. the academy of music a beautiful place to be- the ceiling goes on forever and everything feels warmer. the band all wore suits and had such an incredible energy- you could look at over the audience at any point in time and everyone seemed to be silently watching, mesmerized by their performance. they played a mix of songs from their collaborative body and individual projects. the lighting was absolutely swoon worthy. one minute there were colors everywhere, reaching out to the audience and another there were dusty silhouettes against a wall of white light. my favorite was when they would shine a single spot light on the players- it really drew attention to how large the stage was. it was aboslutely incredible. i had goosebumps the entire time. at the end, everyone gave them a standing ovation and continued to stand through the encore. it really made me re-realize how much i love live music. it was such a positive experience. i forgot about that feeling of connectedness that goes along with sharing something so beautiful.
