to zzzz or not to zzzzz

first: sorry about the lack of blog. this past week has been crraaazzzaayyyy. hopefully i'll be able to update you on it during this week, which promises to be a little slower.
second: insomnia theater had its first show this weekend and it went so well. for those who are unfamiliar with the concept, it's a bunch of kids writing, directing, rehearsing, and performing short plays all in 24 hours. crazy. my brother (who was visiting) also got to participate in the show which really nice- i think he enjoyed doing it and everyone seemed to like him (they couldn't believe he was 16!). he's hilarious. such a good weekend. we ended up raising over $120 for tree house books, a local community center/book store. all the shows were so different and we had a great turn-out for our first event. plus, it was really a bonding thing. i got to know so many new people and in such a short period of time. and they're all very interesting characters. colorful group- lots of fun to be around.

more tomorrow! i'll fill you in on improv and smash and my good news for the fall semester!

a golden era

no seriously. i have the best friends ever. my birthday was perfect. i was surrounded by people i love. and we were all in beautiful costumes. everyone yelled for me at midnight. they went all out for the prohibition party (20 on the 20th = roaring 20's. eh? eh?) and looked absolutely beautiful. my seven-one-seveners traveled from the pittsburgh and delaware and harrisburg to celebrate with me. they did the charleston and watched the kid. everyone sang to me as my two lovely roommates held the cakes. we danced like crazy people at the mask a rave. i stood on the couch while a room full of strangers sang to me at a party. we stayed out late, in full costume, having a blast then came home to eat steak'ems and watch matilda. it was divine. by far, my favorite birthday ever. if this is any indication of what my twenties will be like, i say hell yes. bring it. so good.

james and his baby

this is my friend jimmy. and his baby, flapjack (aka my roommate's stuffed monkey.) i caught him rhythmically rocking him in his arms while watching television. if this is how he interacts with inanimate objects, i can't wait to see him with real children. he's going to be a wonderful (very zealous) father someday. hopefully to something more than a monkey.

snow day feasting

we had TWO FULL COLLEGE SNOW DAYS and they have been everything i could have ever hoped for. lots of renting movies from the library. lots of playing in the snow. lots of engaging in (or running away from) random snowball fights on campus. lots of wigs. (actually only a little wigs. just enough wigs maybe.) lots of cooking and baking. this included my first foray into the world of tofu. i know- me? the proud carnivore? cookin' up silky soy blocks? what is this, backwards world? no my dear readers. no backwards world. just 2010. wanted to try something new (it's colleggeeeee) so i did. conclusion? i don't like it. with every bite my heart yearned for the real deal. i am my father's daughter through and through- gimme a steak over a salad any day. unless it's a steak salad. in which case i can have the best of both worlds. i used the tofu in a curry recipe along with red peppers, coconut milk, and pineapple. pretty tasty. i made devil's food cake with soda and used my heart pans so they look like lil' baby hearts. some got peanut butter on top; some got powdered sugar; others got a vegan coconut frosting recipe i made up using cocoa powder, crisco, powdered sugar, and the leftover coconut milk. delicious. yesterday i made chicken-butternut tagine. so. good. i loved the spices- turmeric, cumin, ginger, and cinnamon? sweet goddamn. that's good eatin'. i woke up this morning and decided to make peanut butter and jelly muffins. they stuck to the cupcake liners (a flaw in my baking? or because the liners are from the shady dollar store down the street? we may never know.) but they were still edible and enjoyable.

tomorrow: i actually have to venture outside. sweet goddamn. here we go.

stuff i've made

i've had a pretty productive weekend in the 'making stuff' department. things i made included:
1. made a fort! technically, alex and corrie made most of the fort but i assisted with the design and a few odds and ends. (weigels are master fort makers- the key is to flip your couch so the back of it is facing the ceiling. this obviously only works with certain types of couches, but if you can do this, i highly recommend it.)
2. homefries and banana chocolate chip/butterscotch chip pancakes. which were eaten in the fort. obviously.
3. a giant mess. seriously. our kitchen/living room was trashed with fort supplies/crafty things.
4. valentines for the valentines swap!
5. a rainbow vegan cake for the beautiful and grown-up, christine. (i found the recipe here. it was so super easy and it looks craaazzzyyyyyy. god bless food coloring.)
6. new mittens! and hi 5 minutes at that. i'm excited for the impending snow because i'll get to break out these bad boys.

woooo hooooo!
tonight shall be full of catching up on homework and filling out applications. after a weekend of forts and children's movies (though i seriously don't think return to oz should be considered a children's movie. . . ) and rainbow cakes and crafts, it's time for grown-up things. sweet goddamn. i shake my fist at age.
