show and tell

excellent haul today: $5.00 pack and play record player- in working condition with beautiful orange interior! carly simon camel-colored felt hat. vintage sewing booklet. old school alarm clock (they had a cooler one in black with gold numbers but the front was all scratched. it's previous owner was probably not a morning person.) mickey mouse presidental sheets. flapper woman tapestry? coverlet? not sure. but i like it. i also got a j.crew blue polka dot jersey dress and a white rope belt. good day.

a well-documented life

yet another glorious day in the realm of thrift.
1. polaroid 330 land camera! $3.97! and i can use fuji 100-C film for it! huzzah huzzuh huzzah! it also came with a really friggin' sweet carrying case that has a sort of cousin-of-paisley blue and green lining. yes on so many levels.
2. this is actually an old thrift find that i just recently remembered- it's a super 8 camera complete with instructions and a carrying case with a safari sticker on top. now i just need to find film for these two fine instruments. . .
3. two new mugs! i'm a total sucker for mugs. they're just so beautiful! i can't stop buying them! i think i'm going to start a 50 states mug collection and try to get a mug from each of america's fine states. . . i haven't started a new collection in a while. i think it's time.

i also bought a vintage coffee pot with gold starbursts on it that i indeed to plant something in. and tomorrow i'm going to back for a red vinyl top kinchette table. sooo beautiful! i would have bought it today but 1. i didn't have the van and 2. i needed to ask my grandpa if i could store it in his basement. i'm going to take it over to their (g-parents) house on wednesday then look for grandma's wedding dress in the basement and make them some homemade cinnamon rolls! twil be glorious indeed!

(sidenote: we were talking about it at dinner last night (flank steak, lima beans, corn on the cob, and cheesey potatoes = divineeee) and how cute would it be if my grandpa and i started a cupcake shop? answer: super cute. because dr. jesse weigel is a gem of a man. also at dinner: my grandma claimed her red nailpolish made her look like a 'tart' and proceeded to say, "i'm a tart-y lady." priceless.)

sugar how'd you get so fly?

i've been living the kitchen the past two days! which is good!
1. first, i tried out a recipe my friend jade gave me for salad dressing- it's just spicy mustard, white vinegar, italian dressing, and cinnamon all mixed up. and it's damn tasty.
2. i made pavlova for my mom's birthday! it's ridiculously hard to make- my meringue wasn't stiff enough but it still turned out alright. the best part was cutting up the kiwis- i googled how to take the skin off and on of my results said to use a spoon. you just wedge it between the kiwi and the skin then rotate it around and the kiwi just pops out! no skin! it's incredible! and absurdly fun!
3. i made homemade cinnamon buns! with cream cheese icing! and cinnamon clove swirls! so good!

i also made two purses- one for my mom's birthday and one for my etsy shop. (i'm hoping to do a total revamp by next week- just adding new things and getting a new banner, etc.) also, I CAN'T STOP EATING FRUIT. it's so good. blueberries are my weakness.

i choose to make it into gold

these are mostly food pictures because i've been eating so many good things recently. friendship bread (which was devoured by my friends ironically enough- although i guess that's not really ironic. it being eaten by my enemies would be ironic.), pear and blue cheese pizza, delicious blt made my mommy, strawberry shortcake (the trick is to crush up the strawberries so they soak into the shortcake), and a clambake. my stomach has been rejoicing.

in other news: i sucessfully burnt my first screen and printed my first shirt! liz, eric, anna, and julie were all there to assist and witness my first print. it was a magical moment. i will admit, it's a challenging process. but very rewarding. i feel accomplished. and that's another thing i can check off my summer to-do list! huzzah! only a month and a half left to finish off that sucker. . . and i'm seriously doing it this year. everything will be crossed off. because i've been thinking about will smith a lot recently, and will smith believes that one of the reasons he's so sucessful is because he's willining to work three times harder than everyone else. he's willing to put in the extra hours and effort to make his work the best it can be. and i think i'm going to start living by that same code. so get ready to-do list. i'm pulling out al the stops. i'll sleep when i'm dead.

still scared of the dark

so i got a really nice silkscreening kit for christmas from my parents. it's funny- kevin weigel never does anything halfway, so when i expressed interest in silkscreening, he did all kinds of research on different products and bought all the proper accessories to ensure precision as well as all the instructional manuels and dvds. i've found that i'm becoming more and more like him. especially with this- i watched both dvds twice, read about a thousand online tutorials, and all of the instructions about a dozen times. and today, i finally got started.

i get nervous because the supplies aren't exactly cheap so i don't want to ruin anything. and it's pretty tricky to do because the chemicals are light sensitive so you have to work in the dark. (not exactly the best situation for me- i'm scared of the dark AND i can't see anything.) i cleaned, mixed, and coated tonight and i'm hoping to burn my screen tomorrow. i think i'm going to do one of the designs on the left as my first print. thoughts on which one? i'm hoping to find some sweet raglan baseball t-shirts to put them on. cross your fingers that i didn't royally screw something up in the dark!

also, i forgot how much i love this song. we should have a themed party that looks like that video.

things i love

true blue

i love this homegirl. we share brainwaves on a very serious level. and sometimes i bully her or get bitchy with her or just outright mean, but she understands me well enough to know that i don' t mean it. or that i do mean it but it doesn' t matter because i won't mean it later. i love that i can call her and bitch to her about stuff and she just gets it. whenever i call her, we end up having really good discussions and when i hang up the phone i just have this really whole feeling. like i want to sigh and smile, shaking my head, thinking to myself "she knows me all too well." or "well aren't we just peas in a pod?". seriously. mad love for that girl.
