farewell feast

i've been fairly demanding as of recent. justifying it pretty much by saying i'm leaving the country for three months. which is true. but still. my largest demand was a farewell feast of all of my favorite foods. (london's food is actually made of poop, and i'm anticipating not eating good things so i wanted a kind of cram-it-all-in-while-i-still-can thing. so even i can't find stuff to eat, i'll get sustenance from the memories of my feast. because that's definitely how food/bodies work.) anyway, my mother is an allstar and organized the whole shindig. everyone brought different favorites- the menu included crock pot ribs, chicken divan, garlic mashed potatoes, tomato pie, strawberry & spinach salad, baked apples, that shrimp dip my mom makes, the sweet cream cheese salsa, and judy's chocolate cake with seven minute frosting. total food heaven. i can't imagine a better last dinner. it was just a whole sloppy helping of all my comfort foods- prepared by the people i associate each dish with. total perfection. just for good measure (and because i'm a strong believer that it's not a party unless there's a theme), i made the theme 'hat party' and told everyone to wear their favorite hats. my grandpa forgot his so i lent him a robin hood/peter pan hat & i sported a sweet neon orange furry hunting hat my grandparents got for me when i was sixteen (so i could wear it at the bus stop and not get hit by cars on foggy mornings. obviously. because that's a thing people do.) let me tell you- everything is funnier when people are wearing hats. they were all looking like crazy wizards. i was highly amused. despite the fact that it was hot as all getup, all the attendees were good sports and kept their caps on while we feasted and listened to music by british artists. i feel like my final night in the states would have made uncle same proud. he was into weird hats.
